Vee and Christina made one adorably scrumptious little burrito. Love how this little guy was checking me out. He figured out what I wanted him to do pretty early on…charm us with his very snuggliest of looks.
Each time I see a newly minted baby I am wowed by the miniature scale the little person is made in. As far as human tricks go, it is The Best Trick Ever!

A little blinding Southern Californian noon sun isn’t going to scare me away from bringing people outside. There is certainly a wrong and a right way to position people underneath this unforgiving light. I think we found a cool spot here.

Congratulations Christina and Vee-I’m so happy for you!

I brought my portable studio lighting as I knew there would be dark pockets in gorgeous areas I wanted to use, such as this (back lit) stair landing. In the end, I let the existing light deposit itself quietly on the family and let the images come together organically.
I jumped at the opportunity to spend a morning working with these wonderful kids and their families.

Two sisters who are relentless in their harassment, protection, and adoration of their little brother.

Our general goal was to make uniform looking images for the wall display for the October auction. However some of my favorite images are ones that came from sitting back and watching and documenting.

Cassie is on a three week countdown to baby boy number three. Shortly after purging all of their baby gear, Lisa and Cassie got the baby itch again and after getting a chance to play with the boys, I understand why – G and S are two terrific and affectionate boys. I had a ball spending the morning with this family under what I am dubbing the Seattle 2011 Burst of Glorious Spring Sunshine.

This five year old, S, loooooves his three year old brother, G.

When the boys are big and eating them out of house and home, I hope that Cassie and Lisa will look at this one and remember the days they could tuck their sweet children on their lap and snuggle in.

Congrats Cassie and Lisa! Can’t wait to meet the latest version of adorableness you are adding to your family:)

I wish I could start off every blog post with an image of Ellison relaxing moments before walking the aisle. Vintage beauty in the historic Park Plaza Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. (For the photo geeks out there this one was taken at 2500 ISO in just a teensiest spot of light squeaking through the window)

While Ellison was getting her hair and makeup done, her bridesmaids and I goofed around in the parking lot of the salon for a few moments to make these pictures. Not wanting to leave the groomsmen out of this post, I am including them in the posed, but not really posed, bridal party picture. A part of me just can’t bear the traditional stare at the camera pictures. We did do some dutifully…”for the parents”.

I met Richard at a meeting for prospective photography interns at the UCLA Daily Bruin the first week of college. We shredded that year together as photographers, wearing our cameras across our backs- most days in lieu of backpacks holding our books. Twenty years of photographic and non-photographic adventures later, here we are. He shot my wedding, making gorgeous medium format images using his Hasselblad (just before the world went digital), and I was so excited to be there for him and Ellison at their wedding.

I can’t stop posting pics of Ellison-she is so beautiful!

Congratulations from the bottom of my heart to Richard and Ellison.

I may not make it to my 20 year high school reunion this Fall, however the trip down memory lane with the group of Daily Bruin photographers who came together at Richard and Ellison’s wedding was enough fun to make up for missing a lifetime of reunions. The things we used to do. Ah, youth.

This wee one is such a gentle soul. So mellow and content was this 6 week old that she coaxed the sun out on our brisk January afternoon shoot. We borrowed a swing in my backyard for this little one to perch on. I promise it was only for a second and she was well wrapped up. My Chinese ancestors are gasping that I exposed a newborn baby to the wintery elements, but I’d like to think they agree with me that it was worth it.

I was so excited when the sun came out during our shoot and I could revisit my old friend, window light, who I miss oh so very much. Baby L was awake almost the entire shoot watching us work. I wonder what she thought of all the shenanigans.

Back in the studio. Little L is going to be a crack up when she gets older. I can just tell.

My many congratulations to Aaron and Irene on the gorgeous addition to their family. These two are assured and mellow first time parents, perhaps a result from coming from large extended families themselves. I can’t wait to watch little L grow over the years.

Welcome little one.

Your parents waited patiently a long, long time for you. They believed in you and took several spoonfuls of modern medicine. You made your grand appearance as a little nugget in your mom’s belly and all of your family and friends breathed a sigh of relief, sucked in a deep breath, and held that until you came out. Perfect. Beautiful.

Your mama and dad and big brother love you little L. So do I.

With all my heart,
Your mama’s friend since toddlerhood, Audrey
